Mountain Biking Mammoth Lakes, CaliforniaThis summer I took some time to enjoy the Mammoth Lakes multi use trail system for biking around town as well as the mass amounts of mountain biking trails Mammoth Mountain has to offer. With so many options there’s endless bike rides you can take all summer long, some trails even used for trail running and hikers.

The local multi use trail system around town has finally had some completions this summer that have proven to be awesome routes in getting around town. We used this trail system the most this summer to be able to finally ride up the lakes basin on a wide enough paved trail for traffic going both ways; bikes, pedestrians, and no competing with the many cars that drive up the two lane road anymore. For a short ride you can go up and around Twin Lakes, where you can have a delicious lunch at the Lakefront Restaurant after. For a more advanced ride take the loop around Lake Mary and then up to Horseshoe. This is a great work out and the views of all the lakes on your way up the trail are great breaking points for photo ops.

We recently took a couple days to use our mountain bike passes to use the Mammoth Mountain’s extensive trail system and scenic gondola. The gondola ride in the summer to the top of the mountain is just as beautiful as the winter with amazing panoramic views of the Eastern Sierra. “Off The Top” which is about 8 miles down the backside of the mountain is a great trail that spits you out at Red’s Lake, a small overflow lake created by the melting snow runoff. The lake is breathtaking and a great spot to stop and take in the beautiful scenery before you ride back down the “Mountain View” trail which I prefer being that it’s absolutely beautiful. Not only is it a quiet and breathtaking atmosphere but the flow of the trail is great for both beginners and advanced riders, taking you right back to the adventure center where you can hop right back on the gondola for a another round of great trail seeking or head back down “Downtown” to the Village. There are endless trails both on the mountain and in town that take you across the massive mountains terrain and throughout town that can keep your biking adventure full for days!
