Mammoth Lakes, California ActivitiesWith a small child in tow, I don’t always get to enjoy downhill skiing on a powder day. So after the last storm my husband loaded our nine month old into the backpack and went cross country skiing to Minaret Vista. After skiing uphill for a little more than a mile on an ungroomed trail, we were rewarded with beautiful vistas of the Minarets, Banner and Ritter Peaks (our son is named after Ritter!) and the valley enclosing the middle fork of the San Joaquin River. This is one of the most beautiful views in the Sierra…and we had it all to ourselves on this snowy day. A thermos of hot chocolate warmed us up and the clouds broke and the sun shone on the way down. If you are looking for a different experience in Mammoth give this a try!

Our cross country ski area, Tamarack, is also a beautiful place to stride or skate for the day and enjoy our area’s scenery. With many kilometers of groomed trails, you can ski past 4 lakes with views of Mammoth Crest and Crystal Crag the whole time. You can even finish off your day with dinner at the famous Lakefront Restaurant at Tamarack Lodge!
